Keyen Green is known as a sharer user on social media. With Green being the oldest current Lady Vol player on the team, there is no surprise that she doesn't spend all of her time on social media. However, when Green does it is impactful and resourceful. Green uses her platform to reach a wide audience to express her opinions about current events, or topics on her personal page, while maintaining a Lady Vol Image.

Collecting data from Green's cell phone battery usage on Wednesday April 7th and Thursday April 8th, shows that her phone during the 48 hour window for 5 hours and 49 minutes. The Screen Off data showed that she spent 1 hour and 30 minutes with the screen turned off, therefore she was most likely listening to an audiobook or music. Green's Instagram

When speaking with Green, she agreed that Instagram was the more steady and consistent app that she uses, especially since she has had the account since Middle School! Green stays more active on Instagram because of the people she follows and can remain in touch with. Green also agreed that Snapchat was used the least because she felt that she has "outgrown" Snapchat. Do you feel the other Lady Vol players will agree with her?
When Green occasionally uses Instagram Account she mainly views posts of the 2,299 people she follows rather than posting a lot of content. She considers herself to be more of a "looker/viewer” on social media. Currently on Instagram, Green has 1,751 followers who patiently wait for her next post or repost.
Green's social media platforms feature her friends, basketball related pictures and black history. She would consider her social media to be diverse as it shows different parts of her life there. Green promotes herself on her social media platforms as a student athlete who uses her honest voice to address issues, while also enjoying taking photos with the people she loves.
Green is passionate about addressing social issues and racial injustice. Recently, she has been sharing "Attacks against Asians" to keep people aware and informed. Green stated that she feels the need to share ‘anything I feel like matters and that people need to see’. She feels that this counts as part of her contribution to address important matters.

Keeping a "Lady Vol Image"

Green's meaning of keeping a "Lady Vol Image" is "conducting yourself in a way that represents your family, yourself, and the school in a positive manner."
On social media, Green balances her personal fun photos, social injustice posts with of source, life as a student-athlete. Green enjoys posting Lady Vol related content! Whether it's another teammate achievement, photos in her uniform, games highlights or articles about a game, she goes through before posting anything on her social media.
While her post may seem as if it comes with the quick push of a button, there is a lot that goes on behind the screen before she clicks “share”. Green hesitates before posting anything on her social media page and she says it is because "we have an image to maintain." Green talks about the things she tries to avoid when posting, such as photos being too provocative or questionable, avoiding curse words in song lyrics or reposting something that may be labeled as inappropriate. Bottom line, it is a lot of thoughts she has to go through so it becomes frustrating for Green to post.
Green goes through two major questions before being able to post on their page. Green has to ask herself one, if it is still maintain her Lady Vol image. Secondly, ask herself the "regular question" which is asking her friends if it is a cute picture post.
Green also mentions how Twitter is the hardest platform to try to avoid all of of the violations of keeping her Lady Vol Image. This is accurate as Green's battery usage doesn't show Twitter listed as one her apps used as often. On Twitter, Green shared that "it is easy to retweet or like something you agree with that is funny but sometimes it has curse words in it but then you can't like it anymore so you will just have to send it in the group chat or save it."
Green hesitates because she tries to adhere to the rules to avoid conflict with the ‘fans’, and the social media rules are in place so we can avoid conflict with the ‘fans’.
I asked the question, “If you weren't a Lady Vol and didn't have to maintain an image, what would post more of?” Without hesitation and any second thought, Green excitedly said that she would post more ‘bikini pictures'' because she likes hanging around the pool or beach. Afterwards, Green shared that because of our fans and being in the public ties, we have to think before we share these photos.
One thing that stuck out while talking with Green was that she feels that:
“It’s frustrating to be at the prime years of your life and can’t post all of the parts of it because you don’t want to get in trouble, or it looks bad on the school. I feel like, if i wore the bikini at the beach, and all those people saw me, why does it matter if the people on the internet see me. I worked hard for this."
Athlete or not, can you relate to the hesitation of posting on social media?
