Help! How do you add this filter? Being a 21-year-old social media driven person who is being taught filtering tips and how to operate the "new social media" by my 10-year-old sister has been an eye opener and left me thinking “Am I really getting old or are the new technologies of social media advancing every day?
New technologies and Social Media are impacting journalism in many positive and negative ways. The ability for most people to create and publish content allows everyone the opportunity to grow their personal and business brands with a couple clicks of a button is very positive media technology. New media technologies allow you to make your visions come true and allows you to gain a following and pursue your brand. It also allows you to be fully creative and reach your target audience the way you are able to determine is best. These new technologies can be very impactful to reach various audiences through various platforms.
People who don’t have good intentions with building their brand can create a negative impact on their following and still get attention from it because of these new media technologies. Everything isn’t meant for the media and some people take advantage of it by false branding, false advertising, or completely putting out information that shouldn’t be on social media. Reports and articles that have been incorrect have created lots of confusion throughout the world. Censorship on social media has become a debatable issue in order to help monitor false and negative reports and articles.
Journalists and Audience's relationships today focus on branding and building a following. Journalists have to have a passion towards their beat or niche so when they present their information, they are credible. The Audience will follow or listen to whomever catches their attention for the longest period of time and benefits them the most. Their relationship is the more you give, the more I’ll take.
Journalists must constantly update their skills in our new media world by keeping up with the newest updates on the newest technology, social media platforms and newest trends. Whatever is trending the most, catches the most attention from the audience. By consistently practicing the five W’s, Journalists can keep up by focusing on the who, why, when, what, how, where. By explaining to your audience who you are, what your story is about, and your background helps ensure your credibility and allow people to know and understand what all you’re about and your visions. Journalists also need to be able to explain what it is they do, what is the thing that makes them special, and will help them be influential to others. All Journalists should know their why’s and why they do what they do and why it is important. Journalists should have a when, to have something to look forward to and help guide them on their journey.
